Policy recommendations from OrganicTargets4EU

Work on the OrganicTargets4EU was concluded in March 2026, leaving a lasting legacy in the form of an evidence base on the socioeconomic impacts of reaching the EU’s organic targets.  The work shows that good progress is being made towards the ambitious 25% target: reaching 15-18% under organic managementis achievable by 2030, reaching 25% may take longer but is not out of reach.

12 Policy Briefs were written in the context of current and planned EU policy directions based on project results, engagement with EU and national stakeholders. They provide recommendations to policymakers. The results highlight the need to focus on integrated long-term strategies with clear milestones, resources and capacity building and call for political commitment, policy innovation, strengthened AKIS, and market support for the organic sector. Of specific interest to the OrganicAdviceNetwork are the following POLICY BRIEFS:

We consider these recommendations in the ongoing work of the OrganicAdviceNetwork for developing the specific recommendations for knowledge networks supporting producers that are interested in practices organic farming.

The project delivered also Organic sector factsheets on production and market trends and policies track for 29 European countries with data up to 2024. And the organic sector AKIS factsheets cover the state of organic agricultural knowledge and innovation systems in 8 focus countries. Farmers and aquaculture producers, advisors,organic associations, retailers, and food businesses can also benefit from Practice abstracts covering amongst other topics national AKIS networks in several countries, available on the OrganicFarmKnowledge Platform.
